We Are Nature
From 22 May to 31 August 2025, the Singer Museum Laren will hold an exhibition entitled We Are Nature.
This unique project is the inspiration of Her Royal Highness Princess Irene of The Netherlands.
And by way of this this exhibition the Princess hopes to emphasize the relationship between Nature and her children.
After all, all living creatures and plants on this Earth are bound together by the mycelia from which they originated.
Princess Irene, who has a loving respect for Nature, feels we humans have lost our inextricable interconnection with all life forms, with obvious negative consequences.

This exhibition will give visitors the opportunity to experience, in silence, the essence of the works of art helping them to connect with the Natural World whilst reflecting on their own significance in the greater scheme of things.
We are all part of Nature and should not consider ourselves above it.
We must try to restore the balance between humans and the Earth and hopefully this exhibition will play a small part in achieving this aim.

The curator of this exhibition is Maarten Spruyt, well known for his Museum projects such as those in the Van Gogh Museum and Kunstmuseum in The Hague, and other Art Institutions like Het HEM and BRUTUS.
Mrs Fusien Bijl de Vroe, former director of the Rembrandt Association, is co-organiser.

Princess Irene’s greatest wish is that visitors will leave the exhibition feeling they are undeniably part of Nature.
Therefore, works of art will be selected expressing the sensation of belonging: the one cannot do without the other.
For this show, we are working with a number of international artists working in this field, including Henrique Oliveira, Jackie Mulder, Tony Matelli, Tomáš Libertiny, Keith Edmier and Sun-Hyuk Kim.

Singer Laren is the best location for this exhibition, as it developed from an artist’s colony in Laren-Blaricum.
From the late 19th century onwards, artists came flocking to the area because of the unspoilt environment and its inhabitants.
They left urban environments, because of the growth of industry and despite of better economic conditions.
Regarding this special generation of artists there will be a concurrently exhibition alongside the We Are Nature exhibition.
